This assessment standard 'Investigate Biological Material at the Microscopic Level' is a practical lab unit which will take three weeks to complete. There is a 60min written assessment in the last L2 Bio Class of the term. I will give you formal written notice of the test date and submission of your biological drawings.
Task 1. Please read the standard carefully and discuss together - What does it all mean?
Explore an excellent website called ' Study It'.https://studyit.govt.nz/Biology/level/9/standard/2.8/subjectContent

Task 2
- Choose a Microscope that you will use for the assessment.
- Look in the cupboard or microscope stand at the front of the room and take a slide and coverslip.
- Practice making some slides of plant material you can find near the classroom e.g., grass root hairs, very small leaves etc.
- Get familiar with the microscope. Help each other learn how it works and how to work out the magnification of an object. e.g., multiply the ocular lens withe the objective lens.
Task 3. Structure and Function of cells and cell organelles. Start reading, taking notes or making flashcards to help strengthen your understanding of structure and function of the plants and unicellular organism you will be studying. I have added a number of fact sheets. Choose the one that suits your style of learning best. You could use these to make your own flashcards. By writing your own and understanding what you have written will help your memory retention. Make the most of this week!
Task 4. Collectively find 4 great You Tube clips for this page :)
